COMPARISON: The best sunscreen

Header The Moisturizer - COMPARISON: The best sunscreen

A few days ago I told you about the importance of using a good sunscreen and why it is necessary to use it daily. Sunscreen is the most important product of your beauty routine. In fact, if you only have time to use one thing, let it be sunscreen.

However, even knowing that sunscreen is very important to keep our skin young and healthy, it is sometimes difficult to choose the right product. The variety is infinite: there are all kinds of textures, finishes, fragrances, etc. and it can be difficult to find a product that fits everything we are looking for. With this post I want to help you find the perfect sunscreen: that you can use every day without getting tired of it and knowing that your skin will be very well protected.

In this comparison I have divided sunscreens according to the type of filters they incorporate in their composition:

  • The best sunscreen with physical filter:
    • La Roche Posay Anthelios Anti-Imperfections Corrective Gel-Cream.
  • The best sunscreen with chemical filter:
    • Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence.
    • La Roche Posay Anthelios Shaka Fluid.
    • Purito Centella Green Level Safe Sun.
    • Avène Eau Thermale Fluid Mat Perfect.

As you will remember from my previous post about sunscreens, sunscreens with a physical filter reflect radiation, as a shield. They are the most appropriate ones for pregnant women and children, since they are not absorbed, but remain on the surface of the skin. The most common physical filters are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, as we can see here:

The Anthelios line from La Roche Posay is a classic. It has an immense variety of products that adapt to all skin types and to all tastes. In this case, I am going to talk about a product with physical filters designed to provide a very high sun protection (it is SPF 50). Among its ingredients it incorporates niacinamide and salicylic acid, so it is a great solution for those who have a certain tendency to oily skin.

The first thing you notice when applying it is that it has a very light and comfortable texture, it’s so easily spread. One aspect that I did not like too much is that it leaves a bit of residue (a kind of white cast), something characteristic of sunscreens with a physical filter, despite incorporating nanoparticles of titanium dioxide. That residue can be removed easily, but it can be annoying if you do not realize it’s there. The protection it provides is very good, it is not oily at all and I have used it throughout the day without feeling that it needed reapplication (although you already know that it is always convenient to do it).

In short, it is a very comfortable product to use. I will have to investigate if that residue is a result of my beauty routine, of the particular tube that I have or of the product in general, but removing that aspect is a highly recommended product.

Among the ingredients of Anthelios Anti-Imperfections Corrective Gel-Cream sunscreen from La Roche Posay we find:
Aqua / Water, Homosalate, Silica, Octocrylene, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Ethylhexyl Triazone, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol, Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Niacinamide, Drometrizole Trisiloxane, Glycerin, Pentylene, Glycol, Dicaprylyl Ether, Aluminum Starch, Octenylsuccinate, Styrene / Acrylates Copolymer, Tocopherol, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Perlite, Acrylates / C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Aluminum Hydroxide, Caprylyl Glycol, Inulin Lauryl Carbamate, Isopropyl Lauroyl Sarcosinate, P-Anisic Acid, Peg-8 Laurate, Salicylic Acid, Silica Silylate, Sodium Dodecylbenzenesulfonate, Stearic Acid, Stearyl Alcohol Terephthalylidene, Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid, Titanium Dioxide, Titanium Dioxide [Nano] / Titanium Dioxide, Triethanolamine Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Xanthan Gum, Zinc PCA.

You can get La Roche Posay Anthelios Anti-Imperfections Corrective Gel-Cream sunscreen on Mankind.

Sunscreens with a chemical filter are characterized by absorbing ultraviolet radiation, instead of reflecting it. Some of its usual ingredients are oxybenzone, oxtinoxate, homosalate and octocrylene. Among their advantages, it should be noted that, by not leaving a film on the skin, their finish is usually invisible, without leaving that whitish rest typical of physical filters. Among the best sunscreens with chemical filter we can find:

This was one of the sunscreens that I wanted to try the most. I had read very good opinions about it, but I was not sure if it would be as good as they said.

The brand promises a very light texture, water based, to be able to use it daily without it being heavy. The product, with chemical filters, is designed to not be greasy or sticky, without leaving that whitish finish that characterizes some other sunscreens. Its protection is SPF 50 and PA ++++, so you have the peace of mind that your skin will be well protected against UVA and UVB radiation.

From the first time I used it I realized that everything the brand promises is true. The product is, in fact, very light and comfortable. Its texture makes it apply very easily without leaving any kind of residue or feeling of heaviness. It can be used daily and the reapplication is very comfortable. It is designed to be reapplied even after makeup, although I have not tried it and I can not give you my opinion on that aspect. They designed this product to be used on sensitive skin, but it can sit well on all skin types. In addition, its ingredients include niacinamide, perfect to help rebalance the tone and texture of your skin.

This is, without a doubt, one of my favorite sunscreens. I use it very often, and its texture and effectiveness are perfect for any type of day.

Among the ingredients of Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence we find:
Water (Aqua), Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Butylene Glycol, Dibutyl Adipate, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, 1,2-Hexanediol, Glycerin, Niacinamide, Ethylhexyl Triazone, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Silica, Cetearyl Olivate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Sorbitan Olivate, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate, Sorbitan Stearate, Panthenol, Beta-Glucan, Disodium EDTA, Citrus Junos Fruit Extract, Adenosine, Sodium Hyaluornate, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil, Hippophae Rhamnoides Oil, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tocopherol, Allantoin, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil.

You can find the Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence sunscreen on Wishtrend and on Yesstyle.

When La Roche Posay offered me to try this new product from their Anthelios line I was pretty intrigued. This sunscreen with chemical filters is designed for all skin types, including the most sensitive. There are two possible finishes: invisible and sheer. It is resistant to water and sand and hypoallergenic.

Its application is very comfortable, it is a very light product, it is absorbed in an instant and does not leave any kind of residue. It spreads very well and the color finish barely leaves a very soft tint, so it is suitable for everyone. To highlight a negative aspect, alcohol denat. It is the second ingredient in its composition. It is a very comfortable product for day to day, but I am not convinced that they have used this type of alcohol so predominantly in its composition.

Among the ingredients of Anthelios Shaka Fluid sunscreen from La Roche Posay we find:
Aqua / Water, Alcohol Denat., Diisopropyl Sebacate, Silica, Isopropyl Myristate, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Ethylhexyltriazone, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Butylmethoxydibenzoylmethane, Glycerin, C12-22Alkylacrylate / Hydroxyethylacrylate Copolymer, Propanediol, Drometrizole Trisiloxane, Perlite, Tocopherol, Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride, Acrylates / C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Caprylyl Glycol, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Terephthalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid, Triethanolamine, Trisodium Ethylenediamine, Disuccinate.

This product, with chemical filters and protection SPF50 and PA ++++ is designed to provide a very high protection to your skin against radiation without being heavy, given its water-based composition. Among its ingredients, with EWG certification, we find centella asiatica (which helps reduce skin irritation), niacinamide (to improve the texture and tone of the skin while regulating oil levels) and hyaluronic acid (to improve hydration).

The first aspect that caught my attention was the strong scent of lavender. Those of you who know me better know that I do not like products with much fragrance, and especially the smell of lavender tires me easily. In this case, that is a negative point for the product. However, I do have to admit that it has a very comfortable applicator and that it makes it much easier to take the right amount of product. The texture is very light, comfortable and not greasyb at all, so if I did not have the fragrance that I told you I could use it perfectly every day.

If you do not mind the smell of lavender is a highly recommended product. Its texture and composition are very good, so it is a quality sunscreen, perfect for all skin types and for day to day.

Among the ingredients of the Purito Centella Green Level Safe Sun we find:
Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Dibutyl Adipate, Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, 1,2 Hexanediol, Niacinamide, Ethylhexyl Triazone, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Silica, Cetearyl Olivate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Centella Asiatica Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Tocopherol, Sorbitan Olivate Glyceryl Stearate SE, Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate, Sorbitan Stearate, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Disodium EDTA, Adenosine, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin.

You can get the Purito Centella Green Level Safe Sun on Yesstyle.

This sunscreen is very particular, since it includes physical and chemical filters for a better protection against solar radiation. It has SPF 50, and is designed to absorb quickly, without leaving white remains. If your skin is sensitive or has a tendency to oily, this sunscreen can be perfect for you.

The sensation when applied is slightly thick, more than with other fluid sunscreens. The one that I have tested specifically is the tinted version, which does not leave much color but can be a good option for those first days of summer in which you still look like a ghost (which happens to me a lot) and you want to give yourself a little touch of colour.

Among the ingredients of this Avene Eau Thermale Dry Perfect Touch Dry Skin sunscreen we find:
Avene Thermal Spring Water (Avene Aqua). C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate. Dicaprylyl Carbonate. Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol [Nano]. Water (Aqua). Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine. Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone. Silica Diisopropyl Adipate. Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate. Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane. C10-18 Triglycerides. Mica. Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891). Decyl Glucoside. 1,2-Hexanediol. Glyceryl Stearate. Peg-100 Stearate. Potassium Cetyl Phosphate. Acrylates / C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer. Ascorbyl Glucoside. Benzoic Acid. Butylene Glycol. Caprylic / Capric Triglyceride. Disodium Edta. Fragrance (Parfum). Glyceryl Behenate. Glyceryl Dibehenate. Iron Oxides (Ci 77492). Iron Oxides (Ci 77491). As you can see there is a perfect sunscreen for everyone. You can choose one depending on what you like: more dense, lighter, with physical filters, with chemical filters, etc. In the end it is a matter of finding the one you like and using it daily, re-applying it and taking good care of your skin.

And what is your favorite sunscreen? Is there any that you did not include in the comparison and that you would like me to try?
